Getting Started

Let me start off by saying that I am really looking forward to studying together.
I have been talking about creating an English language learning website for so long, and I am finally taking some action! Before we get started with weekly lessons, I want to address three important things.

1. SET CLEAR LANGUAGE GOALS: I asked you all to send me your English language goals. By writing them down, we can refer back to see not only if we are making progress, but also as a reminder of why we are studying instead of watching TV (though I may ask you to watch a little TV in the lessons!). Add or update your goals on the GoogleDoc at anytime.

2. DON'T BE EMBARRASSED: Please don't be embarrassed or shy. Learning any language is not easy, but it becomes much easier when we do away with our inhibitions and are willing to make mistakes. We are all friends, and you already know my faults.

3. SHARE YOUR FEEDBACK: Part of the reason I started the site is so that I can improve my teaching skills, discover what English language learners do/do not like about certain teaching methods, and make changes based on your feedback. All of your suggestions are welcome. I will be making mistakes too! Help me, please?!

For Your Information (FYI)
  • We will use Google Docs to communicate. At the end of each lesson, I will propose a question. Please respond to the question on GoogleDocs and from there I can correct any mistakes. Also, if you would all be willing, we could create a common GoogleDoc so that we can read other people's responses and get a good dialogue going.
  • If you have any suggestions for articles, videos, books, etc. that you want to try or topics that you would be interested in discussing, mention it and we can make it happen. I want these lessons to be personalized for all of you, so speak up!
  • If you want further practice with the expressions and vocabulary that we learn, we can set up a time to Skype.
  • Finally, I am preparing for the Korean language TOPIK test in the Spring, so don't worry, you are not alone in your language study woes.
Leave comments below with any more questions! I'm looking forward to getting started :)
